From your very first visit to Florida’s First Coast, you’ll know this place is special. We’re an island, situated between the Intracoastal Waterway and the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. In the early 1900s, Ponte Vedra Beach became a retreat for America’s rich and famous. The opening of the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in 1928 brought exposure to the region and our seaside community. Word soon spread through the nation’s society pages and social registers of Florida’s newest residential playground. The first visitors and residents came for the sun, sand and surf. They came for the sports. They came to socialize. Couples honeymooned here, families from across the country vacationed here, corporate meetings were held here, and many have since returned to make Ponte Vedra Beach home. They came to find a better way of life. And this tradition continues today, three generations later.

Ponte Vedra offers numerous Championship golf courses, World class Tennis facilities, breathtaking marshlands abounding with wildlife. And of course, miles and miles of beautiful, unspoiled sandy white beaches. The waters of the Atlantic and the Intracoastal waterway tempt windsurfers, yachting and fishing enthusiasts into its surf and inlets. Our sub-tropical climate invites year-round enjoyment. The area enjoys an abundance of more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

There are places of worship for every denomination. One of the most beautiful and unique is an early morning sun-rise service held at the Sawgrass Beach Club pavilion. This service is conducted by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Ponte Vedra Beach is a bedroom community to Jacksonville, one of the fastest growing and most dynamic cities in America today, and is home of the NFL franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacksonville’s strategic location, plentiful work force, low business costs, strong partnership between the public and private sectors, and high quality of life attract many large companies to relocate here. The city is located just twenty two miles from Ponte Vedra and abounds in leisure time and cultural activities. A festive atmosphere exists along the St. Johns River downtown, with the Jacksonville Landing and Southbank Riverwalk restaurants and entertainment.

If you need a day or weekend get-away, historic St. Augustine is just thirty minutes to the south and beautiful Amelia Island Plantation is an hour to the north.

The following four sections highlight Education, Healthcare, Arts & Entertainment and Sports & Leisure. I hope this Community Information will give you an idea of our great city, the beaches and surrounding areas.
